Fever in the elderly

Abstract

Infectious diseases are the major cause of fever in elderly. Other than infectious diseases, collagen tissue disorders and malignant diseases are also associated with fever. The most common infectious diseases in elderly are; urinary tract infections, pneumonia and septicemia. But many of the elderly patients with infectious diseases did not have high fever, tachypnea, and tachycardia. In this manuscript common infections occurring in the elderly and differential diagnosis of fever is discussed.
