Intrathoracic extraparenchymal recurrent giant hydatid cyst

Abstract

Hydatidosis is a parasitic disease caused by larval forms of Echinococcus granulosus, where it is mostly transmitted to humans by the faeces of infected dogs. Hydatic cysts are localized usually in the liver (in 60-70% of cases) and in the lungs (in 20-30% of cases), whereas intrathoracic extrapulmonary involvement is rare. Symptoms vary depending on the size and localization of the cysts. After a lung or liver operation, hydatid disease recurs with a rate of between 1.4%-11%. In this report, we evaluated the diagnosis and treatment of recurrent intrathoracic extraparenchymal giant hydatid cysts in two patients whom operated on 16 and 20 years before pulmonary hydatiditosis.

Abstract

Hidatidozis, çoğunlukla köpek dışkısı ile insana bulaşan Echinococcus granulosus'un larva formlarının neden olduğu paraziter bir hastalıktır. Hidatik kistlerin en sık yerleştiği organlar karaciğer (%60-70) ve akciğerler (%20-30) olup intratorasik ekstrapulmoner tutulum nadirdir. Hastaların semptomları kistin yerleşim yerine ve büyüklüğüne göre değişiklik göstermektedir. Karaciğer veya akciğer operasyonu sonrası nüks oranı %1.4-%11 arasındadır. Bu yazıda, 16 ve 20 yıl önce akciğer kist hidatiği nedeniyle opere edilmiş iki olguda gelişen intratorasik ekstraparankimal dev kist hidatiklerinin tanı ve tedavisi değerlendirildi.
