Limb salvage in acute upper extremity ischemia and compartment syndrome using negative pressure wound therapy

Abstract

Vascular trauma involving major arteries requires urgent intervention to prevent limb loss and systemic complications. This case report presents a 35-year-old male with acute upper extremity ischemia, complete motor and sensory deficiency, and compartment syndrome following multiple sharp injuries. Emergency surgery included brachial artery repair with saphenous vein graft interposition and fasciotomy. NPWT was utilized postoperatively to manage the fasciotomy site, leading to successful wound closure without grafting. Early rehabilitation facilitated motor and sensory recovery. This case underscores the importance of NPWT and fasciotomy in the management of complex vascular trauma cases.
