PLACENTAL CHORANGIOMA (CASE REPORT)

Abstract

Placental hemangiomas are also known as chorangiomas and found in1% of placentas in carefully examined specimens. Most of them are small in size and have generally no clinical significance. However, large chorangiomas (>5cm) are often associated with maternal complications sush as polyhydroamnios, premature births, placental abruption and hemorrages. Case: A 20 year old primigravida with a history of epilepsy was admitted to our obstetrics clinic with abdominal pain. A mass was speculated as hematoma ultrasonographically and cesarean section was performed. A living (live ) infant and a well cicumscribed mass associated with placenta were delivered. Microscopically the tumor was consisted of vascular structures filled with erytrocytes, and diagnosed as ‘chorangioma’. The case is discussed with the associated literature as the large placental chorangiomas are rare.
