A RARE CAUSE OF ABDOMINAL MASS IN CHILDREN : TUBERCULOSIS

Abstract

In recent years, the increasing incidence of tuberculosis particularly with extrapulmonary involvement has been reported. Patients with abdominal tuberculosis have one of three types of disease that is, intestinal, peritoneal, or mesenteric lymph node involvement genital and peritoneal presentation is increasingly reported in recent years. The findings of abdominal tuberculosis are generally nonspecific and an abdominal mass as a finding is very rare in children. We aimed to point out that the diagnosis of abdominal tuberculosis is not easy prior to surgery and must always be kept in mind in differential diagnosis of an abdominal mass in children. In addition, we discuss the clinical presentation of abdominal tuberculosis in children.
