Hepatic and renal subcapsullary haematoma and hemangioma rupture in a familial Mediterranean fever and periarteritis nodosa patient

Abstract

When familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) and periarteritis nodosa (PAN) coexist, risk of spontaneous subcapsular haematoma increases. This is a life threatening condition. In patients with a diagnosis of FMF, when signs and symptoms of PAN is added, one should be careful about subcapsular haematoma. Ultrasonography and computerized tomography, are important, in detecting and measuring amount of subcapsular haematoma in early stages Herein, we report a 17 year old patient with a previous diagnosis of FMF and hepatic hemangioma to have concomitant subcapsular/perirenal haematoma and ruptured hepatic hemangioma. Radiological findings in ruptured hepatic hemangioma are discussed.
