Review of behaviors and knowledge levels of mothers about circumcision

Abstract

Purpose: The study aimed the detection of circumcision related behaviors and knowledge levels of those mothers having a son of 0-12 years old. Methods: The sampling of this descriptive investigation was constituted by the 98 mothers from a universe of 290 mothers, who accepted to participate in the study, had a son of 0-12 years of age, and registered at Doğanlar Health Clinic Region. The data were collected by face-to-face interview techniques and with the help of a questionnaire form composed of 3 parts. Results: It was detected that mothers were predominantly at the age group of 25-34 years, literate, or primary school graduate. The rate of mothers who had his child circumcised at the period when her child was at the 3-6 years of age and that, not appropriate for a circumcision was 36.7%. The majority of mothers having their son circumcised had this operation at home and by a doctor.
