Demographic characteristics of the elderly population in Turkey and the world

Abstract

Projections showed that world population structure and share of age groups will change in the next decades. In 2050, it will be actualized that be historic reversal in the proportions of young and older persons, the young-old balance is shifting throughout the Word. The majority of older persons are women, poor, lonely and have lower educational levels. The increasing proportion of older people in the population and their unmet need for social and health care is an important problem for developing countries.
