Approach to the cardiovascular causes of dyspnea

Abstract

Dyspnea is a subjective symptom that is used by patients to describe breathing discomfort. There are no statistical data about prevalence of dyspnea but epidemiology of pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases indicates that this symptom is very common. Main step of the appropriate treatment of acute or chronic dyspnea is differential diagnosis of the underlying disease. This review will discuss differential diagnosis for cardiovascular causes of dyspnea from history to physical examination and main laboratory findings.
