A 13 year-old girl with basal ganglia calcification

Abstract

Basal ganglia calcification is now being diagnosed with increasing frequency with widespread application of neuroimaging techniques. In the etiology of basal ganglia calcification, infectious diseases, autosomal recessive or dominant inheritance genetic diseases, celiac disease, anoxia, carbon monoxide inhalation, and head trauma can be detected. Here we present a 13 year-old girl with bilateral basal ganglia calcification at the level of globus pallidus, in terms of rarity and examination of the differential diagnosis of basal ganglia calcification.
