Investigatıon of the ct histogram analysis ın distinction of distal ureteral stone and pelvic phlebolith

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the region of interest (ROI) histogram analysis method in differentiating distal ureteral stone and phlebolith on abdominal computed tomography with stone protocol. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 patients with ≥3 mm sized seen in 1/3 of the distal ureteral stones and 100 patients with ≥3 mm sized pelvic phlebolits were included in the study. For histogram analysis, the ROI measurement was conducted at the largest dimension with the most clearly selectable edges using the hand-drawing tool. Results: The 13 different parameters calculated by histogram analysis were compared between the two groups. Standard deviation (SD), minimum, maximum, variance and kurtosis were statistically significant (p<0.05) between groups. Conclusions: Histogram analysis can be used to differentiate between distal ureteral stone and pelvic phlebolits and may contribute to the diagnosis without additional examination. Key Words: Distal ureteral stone, phlebolits, computed tomography, histogram analysis
