THE STUDY OF SCHOOL FOBIC CHILDREN WITH RESPECT TO THEIR BEHAVIORAL CHARACTERISTICS PSYCHOLOGICAL SYMPTOMS OF THEIR MOTHERS AND FAMILY FUNCTIONS

Abstract

İn this study,behavioral characteristics of the children with school phobia, psychological symptoms of their mothers ana the family functions are examined. The sample consisted of a total of 70 (34 girls and 36 boys) elementary school students with ages betvveen 6 and 11 and their mothers. Behavioral Assessment Scale tor Children age 4-18 (CBCL) was administered to the children who were diagnosed with school phobia. Their mother's psychological symptoms were measured by SCL-90-R and Family Assessment Scale (FAS) was used to assess the children's family functions. When the data was analysized on the basis of each case,approximately one forth of the families'family functioning level, children's problem behavior and the mothers' level of symptom were found to be healthy tor each scale.Statistical analysis of the data show that school phobia is multifactorial and that each child should be treated as an inividual case.
