POSTTRAUMATIC PROGRESSIVE RENAL ATROPHY : CASE REPORT

Abstract

A male case born in 1991 that undervvent splenectomy in Aydın State Hospital aftera traffic accident is reported. He was transported to Dr. Behçet UZ Children 's Hospital and posttraumatic thrombosis of left sided arteria renalis was suspected in this hospital and the patient was re-operated because of later complications. Left renal atrophy was observed during follow up. The family of the child was complainant claiming that his left kidney was taken during operation vvithout permission. The court asked for knovvledge from Ege University Forensic Medicine Department for decision about this case whether left kidney was taken during operation. The case was medically and radiologically examined and ali the medical reports were evaluated. Ultrasonographic examination during postoperative follovv up revealed the presence of left kidney. The diagnosis was posttraumatic renal atrophy as a late complication of left renal arterial injury.
