THE EFFECT OF SYMPTOMATIC PALPABLE VARICOCELE ON TESTICULAR VOLUME AND SEMEN ANALIYSIS İN YOUNG MALES

Abstract

Varicocele is a treatable cause of infertility in man and may cause scrotal swelling and pain. BetWeen July 1997 - June 1998, 62 unmarried military conscripts were referred for evaluation of scrotal sWelling and pain and had a palpable left varicocele. Semen analysis were performed in ali subjects. Testes volumes were evaluated with scrotal ultrasound and results compared with 17 healthy person in same age range. The differences betWeen left and right testicular volumes in varicocele groups were statistically significant (p 0.05). Semen analysis indicated loWer qualitative parameters of sperm in 13 of 20 (% 65) in the grade II group, While 20 of 22 (% 91) in the grade III group. İt was concluded that varicocele treatment is important in symptomatic young males not only relief of symptoms but also prevent of testicular atrophy and future infertility.
