LEGAL MEDICAL EVALUATION OF SUİCİDE CASES İN SİVAS BETWEEN 1994 - 1996

Abstract

İn this study, our purpose is to evaluate the suicide cases that are important social pobiems from a medicolegal point of view. During the years 1994 to 1996, informations on suicide cases obtained from judicial and medical archives in Sivas were evaluated. Of 152 suicide attempt cases, 61 (40.1%) were male and 91 (59.9%) were female. The most commonly used method for suicide attempt was drug poisoning prefered by 99 (65.1 %) cases and 3 of these cases (3%) died. The second commonly used method was hanging chosen by 22 cases (14.5%) and ali died. The other suicide attempt methods are less commonly used. Thirty-one (20.4%) of suicide cases died, 22 (71%) with hanging, 3 (9.8%) with drug poisoning, one (3.2%) with firearm, one (3.2%) with LPG (Liqiuefied Petroil Gas), one (3.2%) vvith electric shock, one (3.2%) vvith burning, one (3.2%) vvith drovvning, one (3.2%) vvith jumping from height.
