SERUM ZINC, AND COPPER LEVELS İN CASES WITH MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), an intracellular pathogen. İn this study, levels of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), vvhich are serum transition metals, were studied in the hoşt infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tvventy one healthy subjects (mean age = 35, 77 ±10, 54) (n = 21) negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and acid fast bacilli (ARB) in sputum for tuberculosis, and 19 non-treated patients with TB (n=19) (mean age = 31, 85 ± 7, 39) diagnosed by PCR and ARB ete. in sputum, and pleural, bronehial alveolar lavage and aspiration fluid were subjected to the study. Cu and Zn levels in serum were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Cu levels in sera for the control groups and the patients were found to be 72.05 ± 7.04 f.ıg/100 mL and 68.33 ± 4.66 f.ıg/100 mL respectively, and statically there was a significant difference betvveen them (p < 0,05). Sera Zn levels for control groups and the patients were 62.00 ± 7.86 j.ıg/100 mL and 68.67 ± 5.84 fıg/100 mL respectively, and there was no significant stâtistical diff erence betvveen them (p > 0,05).
