THE ROLE OF ENTEROCLYSIS İN THE EVALUATION OF SMALL BOWEL LESIONS

Abstract

Imaging of the lesions of the small intestines has been challenging. Enteroclysis, a technique popularized by Herlinger; has been proposed to detect specifically the small intestinal lesions. İn this paper; 21 cases presenting to Ege University General Surgery Department with gastrointestinal complaints and symptoms have been studied retrospectively. Of these 21 patients, operation confirmed; Croıshn disease in seven, leiomyoma in six, lymphoma in four, posttravmatic stenosis in one, postoperative stenosis in one, angiofollicular lymph node hyperplasia (Castleman's disease) in one and adeno karsinoma in one patient. İn ali cases, enteroclysis has been success ful to locate the lesion and define the nature and extention of the disease, We concluded that, enteroclysis is a sensitive technique in the detection and evaluation of the lesions of the small intestines.
