THE INVESTIGATION OF THE SAGİTTAL AND TRANSVERSE DİAMETERS OF THE LUMBAL VERTEBRAE A MORPHOMETRIC AND RADIOLOGICAL STUDY

Abstract

This study has been done by using male and female lumbal vertebrae obtained from the bone archive of Anatomy Department in Adnan Menderes Universty Medical Faculty. Direct measuring has been applied to 71 female and 29 male bones. 54 male and 48 female lumbal vertebrae have been measured on computerized tomography (CT). Mean transverse and the sagittal diameters of the lumbal canalis vertebralis in female bones were 22.98 ±2.44 mm and 16.09 ± 1.61 mm in direct measuring, while they were found as 23.02 ±1.94 mm and 16.27±2.70 mm in male vertebrae. İn CT study, mean transverse and sagittal diameters of lumbal canalis vertebralis were measured as 17.08 ±2.50 mm and 25.53 ±3.42 mm in female vertebrae and 17.52 ±2.80 mm and 25.81 ±3.15 mm in male vertebrae, respectively.
