Abstract

The genitourinary tract may be injured by a wide variety of blunt and penetrating travma in lovver abdominal operations. We have investigated the localization, the frequency and the complications, of these tatrogenic injuries. In our study, we detected 7 patients hospitalized at Ege University Medical Faculty, Obstetrics and Gynecology Department for urinary tract injury betvveen January 1997- January 2002. These patients were examined retrospectively. We have found the freguencies of urinary injuries as follows: 85.7 % the bladder, 14.3 % the ureter. While the majohty of iatrogenic genitourinary injurieis not immediately life threatening, rapid recognition is imperative in order to minimize the morbidity and mortality associated with these injuries.
