URSODEOXYCHOLIC ACID TREATMENT IN ACUTE HEPATITIS A VIRUS INFECTION-RELATED CHOLESTASIS

Abstract

Ursodeoxycholic acid is a hydrophilic and non-toxic bile acid which is recognized as a main treatment for chronic cholestatic hepatitis. In previously published studies ursodeoxycholic acid showed some beneficial effects on the course of acute viral hepatitis in adults. In this case report, two children aged 5 and 12 years old with hepatitis A virus infectionrelated cholestasis were presented. The clinical and laboratory manifestations were improved after one-monthursodeoxycholic acid therapy in our patients. We conclude that ursodeoxycholic acid has a beneficial effect on the course of the acute hepatitis A virus infection-related cholestasis.
