LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY FOR RECTO-SIGMOIDAL CARCINOMA: PRELIMINARY RESULTS

Abstract

Laparoscopic colorectal surgery has been performed successfully since 1990. It has been advocated that it presents similar results compared to open surgery on both morbidity and mortality. Moreover it has some advantages. In order to present our first experiences on this subject, we investigated 10 patients who were undergone laparoscopic colorectal surgery on histopathological results, morbidity and mortality rates and follow-ups. It was concluded that laparoscopy has admittable morbidity and mortality rates, presents some advantages on patient comforts and technical situations, but has also some disadvantages like prolongation of the operation period.
