SOMATOSTATIN RECEPTOR 1 EXPRESSION IN HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOMA

Abstract

Somatostatin is a neuropeptide that inhibits cell proliferation. Although somatostatin analogs are used widely in hepatocellular carcinoma treatment, knowledge about malign hepatocyte receptor expression is not sufficient. Somatostatin receptor 1 (SSTR 1) was applied by immunohistochemistry in paraffin sections of 53 hepatocellular carcinoma cases. No correlation was found between morphological parameters and SSTR 1 positivity. Interestingly a close negative relationship was observed between Ki67 and SSTR1. In our study, exhibition of negative correlation between SSTR1 expression and Ki67 proliferation marker supports antiproliferative effect of somatostatin analogs.
