EFFECTIVENESS OF FULLY TRANSPOSITIONS OF VERTICAL RECTUS MUSCLES AT RESTRICTIVE ABDUCTION DUE TO ABDUCENS PALSY

Abstract

Objectıve: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the transpositions of the vertical recti in abducens palsy that demonstrates abnormal head position. Method: In the 9 eyes of 9 cases (4 women, 5 men) that has restricted abduction due to abducens palsy; the effectiveness of full tendon transpositions with or without fixation sutures and additional recessions has been evaluated retrospectively. Results: The median age of cases was 46.3 and median follow up time was 7 months. The mean deviation angle was 62 PD before operations, and it became 12 PD after operations. In 6 cases (67%), the head positions, and in all cases binocular visual field has improved. Conclusion: In restrictive abductions with large angle esotropia which cause serious cosmetic problems, full rectus transpositions especially with posterior fixation suture (Foster operation) and with appropriate recessions produced satisfactory results.
