A case with diabetic foot and urinary system candidiasis

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most frequent metabolic disorders predisposing for infectious disease. In diabetic patients, mortality depends on the respiratory infections and morbidity depends on the urinary, skin and soft tissue infections. In diabetic patients, urinary tract infections are commonly seen. Dysfunction of cellular immunity in diabetic patients is responsible from the increased incidence of opportunistic infections such as candidiasis of the urinary tract. Beside diabetes mellitus, the other predisposing conditions of candiduria are, prolonged hospital stay, parenteral use of antibiotics, increased age, urinary system catheterization. In this report, we report candiduria in a diabetic patient in association with the prolonged hospital stay and use of parenteral antibiotics.
