Retrospective analysis of subjects with a clinical diagnosis of endometrial polyposis

Abstract

Aim: Comparing the subjects who were hospitalized with a clinical diagnosis of endometrial polyposis (EP) and whose polyps were confirmed and not confirmed histopathologically through diagnostic methods such as hysteroscopy or dilation / curettage in terms of epidemiological criteria and clinical and laboratory data were aimed. Materials and Methods: In the present study, 130 subjects were evaluated retrospectively who had received a diagnosis of EP following transvaginal ultrasound examination (TVUSG) or via clinical suspicion and underwent endometrial sampling. Histopathologically, the patients were divided into two groups, those with (Group 1) and without (Group 2) a diagnosis of EP. Gynecological examination records of the subjects included in the study, clinical and laboratory data and epidemiological criteria were reviewed retrospectively. The subjects in whom EP was found and not found following endometrial sampling were compared in terms of epidemiological criteria, clinical and laboratory data and associated histopathological findings. Results: EP was found histopathologically in 95 (70.9%) of 130 patients. The mean age of the subjects was 46.59 ± 11.83 years (range: 24 to 87 years). The most common symptom was vaginal bleeding for both groups [n = 54 (56.8%) and n= 25 (71.4%), for Groups 1 and 2, respectively]. No significant difference was found between the groups with and without polyps found histopathologically in terms of age, reason for presentation, additional conditions, menopausal status, and number and mode of deliveries. Conclusion: No significant difference was found between the groups with and without diagnosis of an endometrial polyp in terms of epidemiological criteria, and clinical and laboratory findings.
