Delayed diagnosis in a patient with persistent vesiculobullous lesions in intertriginous areas: Hailey-Hailey disease

Abstract

Hailey-Hailey (H-H) disease is an autosomal dominant acantholytic dermatosis due to a mutation of ATP2C1. Hailey-Hailey is characterized by recurrent vesiculobullous lesions in the neck, axilla, inframammary, scrotum, and inguinal folds. The diagnosis of H-H was made by clinical and histopathological examination in a 54-year-old female patient who had lesions in the inframammary regions and on umbilicus. The lesions showed exacerbations during each premenstrual period. We judged that the patient is remarkable to present since she was treated with oral and topical antifungal drugs for three years with a diagnosis of mycotic intertrigo.
