Probable fungal brain abscess and neutropenia due to teicoplanin

Abstract

One of the most critical infections in immunosupressed patients is a fungal brain abscess. There are challenges in diagnosis and the mortality rate is very high, although convenient antimicrobial therapy for treatment. Neutropenia due to teicoplanin utilization is identified in case reports. In this paper, we present a case of a patient with autoimmune hepatitis who developed a fungal brain abscess and neutropenia secondary to teicoplanin which was used due to treat a urinary tract infection during a febrile neutropenia episode.
