Three cases of paralysis secondary to hypokalemia and rhabdomyolysis caused by licorice root consumption

Abstract

Licorice root is a widely consumed drink in warm seasons, especially in the East of Turkey. This drink is consumed plentifully especially in the month of Ramadan. We hereby presented 3 cases with muscle weakness, hypokalemia, rhabdomyolysis and hypertension developed secondary to excessive consumption of licorice root, which resolved with potassium replacement.
