Aging, individual and society: A sociological view on aging

Abstract

Age is a social category as much as it is a biological category. Aging also has a social content, for an individual is a social being and lives in a social environment called the society. The factors which constitute this social content turn aging into a social phenomenon. Sociology approaches aging from a sociological perspective. Sociologically, the phenomenon of aging is intertwined with the sociocultural and socio-economic factors including the individual and the society in a social context. This paper aims to systematically elucidate the social content of the phenomenon of agedness on the basis of individual and social planes and to present the sociological content of aging on the basis of the phenomenon of agedness.
