Knowledge and behavior of coiffeur employees about hepatitis in Aksaray city center

Aim: Taking the hepatitis B and hepatitis C prevalence in Turkey into account, the coiffeur employees may play a role in the spread of these diseases and our study aimed to determine the knowledge level and practices of employees in the coiffeur industry in Aksaray with regard to Hepatitis. Materials and Methods: In the year 2010, a total of 59 people were administered face to face surveys. The questionnaire contained 46 questions about sociodemographic characteristics, professional experience, working conditions, and the level of knowledge as well as the measures taken to prevent infection. Results: The average age of respondents was 25 years and all of the participants were women. It was found that the participants had no idea about the contagion of hepatitis B and hepatitis C, while 62% had not been checked for and vaccinated against Hepatitis B. Conclusion: It was suggested that the employees in the coiffeur industry should continue to receive training to prevent contagion of hepatitis B and hepatitis C, and also further efforts should be made to ensure them to use personal protective measures.

Amaç: Ülkemizdeki hepatit B ve hepatit C prevalansı göz önüne alındığında kuaförlerin hepatit bulaşındaki rollerinin önemli olabileceği düşünülmüş ve çalışmamızda, Aksaray ilindeki kuaför, berber ve güzellik salonlarında çalışanların hepatit konusundaki bilgileri ve davranış özelliklerini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Toplam 59 kişiye 2010 yılında yüz yüze anket uygulanmıştır. Ankette sosyo-demografik özellikler, mesleki deneyim, çalışma koşulları, enfeksiyonu önleme konularındaki bilgi ve uygulamalar konusunda toplam 46 soru yer almaktadır. Bulgular: Ankete katılanların yaş ortalaması 25 olup, tamamı kadındı. Katılımcıların hepatit B ve hepatit C'nin bulaşı konusunda yeterince fikri olmadığı ve %62'sinin ise hepatit B'den korunmak için tetkik ve aşı yaptırmadığı saptandı. Çalışmamızda ankete katılan çalışanların özbakım ve malzeme temizliği konusunda da büyük çoğunluğunun yeteri kadar bilgi sahibi olmadıkları ve yanlış davranışlar sergiledikleri tespit edildi. Sonuç: Kuaför salonu çalışanlarının hepatit B ve hepatit C bulaşının engellenmesi amacıyla eğitimlerine ağırlık verilmesi ve özellikle kişisel koruma önlemlerinin uygulanması için daha çok çaba harcanmasının gerektiği düşünülmektedir.
