OUR APPROACH AND RESULTS IN MUTATIONAL DISPHONIA

Abstract

Approach to voice and phonation disorders gains more importance within Otorhinolaryngology. Etiology of these diseases is multifactorial. Therefore they are seen in different clinical forms in practice. Mutational dysphonia vvhich is a functional and non-organic type of voice disorder has a privileged place among the other types of voice and phonation disorders because of its unique pathophysiology. Patients who suffer from mutational dysphonia generally admit to either Internists or Otorhinolaryngologists. Since it can easiiy be misdiagnosed as hormonal dysphonia, several hormonal assays are requested from the patient. Whereas if the physician is familiar vvith the pathology, mutational dysphonia is a disease vvhich is easy to diagnose and treat in a short period of time. İn this paper, 37 mutational dysphonia patients presented who vvere diagnosed and treated at Ege University, School of Medicine, Department of Otorhinolaryngology betvveen 1996-1997. AN of the patients vvere treated completely. Although 7 patients did not come their late controis, follow-up results revealed that 30 patients use their normal voice tone vvithout any difficulty.
