ANTI-dsDNA LEVELS IN THE FOLLOWUP PERIOD OF LUPUS NEPHRITIS IN CHILDHOOD

Abstract

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease, and characterized by the body's production of antibodies to nuclear components of the cell. It is know that Anti-dsDNA are of primary importance for diagnosis lupus nephritis (LN), appear to play a central role in the pathogenesis of tissue injury. In the study, anti-dsDNA levels and other acute phase reactans are evaluated in activity of five LN patients (mean age 14.0±0.7 years). The patients were classified according to begining of the clinical findings and renal biopsy (WHO classification criteria). Disease activity were evaluated with acute phase reactants; which were high ESR, lower C3 levels, positive ANA and compared with anti-dsDNA levels. The patients were treated with prednisone, chlorochine or cyclophosphamide according to the classification criteria. In the following period (7.0±0.7 years), there were 5 activity attacks in 4 patients. The levels of anti-dsDNA were elevated in early phase of activated LN and correlated with disease activity. In conclusion, anti-dsDNA level is an early and a good index of active lupus nephritis.
