Dyke – Davidoff – Masson Syndrome : a case report
Abstract
Dyke-Davidoff-Masson syndrome is characterized with facial asymmetry, hemiplegia or hemiparesis, mental retardation, sensorineural hearing loss, psychiatric disorders, epilepsy, cerebral hemiatrophy in neuro-imaging, unilateral thickening of the skull, extensive widening of paranasal sinuses and increase in air levels. Prenatal infection, congenital disorders, birth trauma, brain tumors, febrile seizures and vascular diseases of the brain have been implicated in the etiology of this syndrome. Diffuse wave deceleration in left hemisphere, left hemiatrophy and moderate mental retardation were detected in EEG, brain MRI and WISC-R tests, respectively, of a 17 year-old female who, when she was 18 months old, had partial seizures and spastic hemiparesis later on. The patient who received Dyke-Davidoff-Masson syndrome in the light of clinial findings and imaging data was presented since it is a rare disorder and can cause partial seizures.
