SERUM TRANSFERRIN RECEPTOR LEVELS IN THE PATIENTS OF DIABETES MELLITUS TYPE 2

Abstract

In this study, serum STfR levels of 45 diabetic patients and 32 healthy adults were measured. There was not any pathology causing anemia, such as iron deficiency, chronic disease and renal insufficiency. Serum STfR level was 1.237±0.250 mg/L in the diabetic patients, and 1.217±0.315 mg/L in the healthy group (p=0.760). There was no difference between males and females. The results suggested that the level of STfR was not affected by diabetic parameters, and that might be a sensitive test to diagnose iron deficiency in diabetic patients.
