Ege Journal of Medicine, recognizes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools under human supervision, in a transparent manner, and in a way that preserves scientific integrity. AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors are responsible for the accuracy, originality, references, and ethical compliance of their manuscripts.

Use and Disclosure by Authors

Authors must disclose the name of the generative AI tool used in preparing the manuscript, its version (if available), the purpose of its use, and the scope of its application under a separate heading entitled “Declaration of Artificial Intelligence Use.” This disclosure requirement also applies to the use of AI for translation, text generation, summarization, or extensive rewriting.

Images and Research Integrity

AI-generated content must not be presented as actual research data, patient images, or experimental findings. AI-assisted image processing and analysis applications used as part of the research methodology must be explicitly disclosed. Original data must be preserved and, when necessary, made available to the editor for review.

Confidentiality and Personal Data

Personal data belonging to patients or participants, confidential research data, and unpublished content belonging to others must not be shared with AI tools unless confidentiality and data security are ensured. The use of such tools must not violate copyright or applicable data protection obligations.

Use by Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts under evaluation, supplementary files, unpublished findings, or confidential correspondence to publicly available generative AI tools. AI must not be used to conduct the scientific evaluation, generate an entire peer-review report, or make acceptance/rejection decisions. If AI is used solely to edit the language of a review report written by the reviewer, without sharing confidential content, this use must be disclosed to the editor. Reviewers and editors retain full responsibility for their evaluations and decisions.

Non-Compliance with the Policy

Undisclosed use of AI or use that violates scientific integrity and confidentiality will be evaluated within the journal’s publication ethics review procedures.

“The AI tool [tool name and version] was used in the preparation of this manuscript for [purpose of use]. The generated content was reviewed by the authors and corrected where necessary. The authors take full responsibility for the entire content of the manuscript.”
